Get
instant alerts
when anyone tries to access your employment data
Know exactly who wants your salary or employment info—and stop requests you don’t trust. It’s your data. You decide what is shared and when.
Did you know?
Over 4 million employers allow your data to be shared
Most verification services prioritize requestors—like debt collectors, lenders, or background check companies—over employees.
Data is sometimes shared based on permissions you may not even recall. Without transparency, you have no idea who’s looking at your info or why.

Control & Transparency
What is MyEmployment, and why should I care?
MyEmployment is a platform that gives you control over who can access your employment and income information — and when. Instead of your data being quietly pulled behind your back, we notify you instantly and give you a say. You can also set global preferences in advance — for example, automatically allow mortgage lenders but never allow debt collectors to access your information.
How do I know who’s requesting my information?
If your employer uses MyEmployment and you opt in for our free service, you’ll get an instant alert anytime someone tries to verify your employment — whether it’s a mortgage lender, background check company, debt collector, or others.
Can I approve or deny access to my employment data?
Yes. You can approve, deny, or globally control access by type (for example: always allow mortgage lenders, never allow debt collectors).
What if I don’t want anyone accessing my info?
You can opt out or freeze your report entirely. That means we won’t release your data to anyone unless you personally unfreeze or authorize it.
What happens if I ignore the request?
We will follow federal, state, and local laws and only release your employment verification when a verifier has been credentialed by us, agreed to our auditing program, and has a permissible purpose under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, state law, or local regulations.
Using the Platform
Do I need to download an app to use this?
No. You can use our mobile app or secure web portal. Both give you access to verification history, request alerts, and control settings.
Can I use this if I no longer work at the company?
Yes. MyEmployment covers both current and former employees. You can still get notified and manage verification requests even years after leaving your job.
How do I sign up or set my preferences?
If your current or former employer is enrolled, you’ll receive a secure invite. If not, you can still create an account, view your history, and request that the employer join or link your information to that employer.
What does it cost me?
Nothing. MyEmployment is free for employees and former employees. Verifiers (like banks or background check companies) pay the cost.
How do I freeze or unfreeze my data?
Log in via app or web. In one click, you can freeze access to your data — or turn it back on anytime.
Pushing for Change
What if my employer still uses The Work Number or another provider?
You can’t control your data unless your employer switches. We recommend you send them to MyEmployment.com/employers, ask them to switch, or share the link on social media. Use the power of your network to influence employers to do the right thing.
How do I ask my employer to switch to MyEmployment?
Share your concerns on social media using [this link], or simply call or email your current or former employer with this link: MyEmployment.com/employers
What if I want proof that someone accessed my info in the past?
The largest provider of employment verification in the country is Equifax, through its division The Work Number. You can request a free copy of your report (also called a file disclosure) to see who has accessed your employment data here:
Security & Rights
Is this legally compliant?
Yes. MyEmployment follows all federal (FCRA) and state regulations. We credential all verifiers and enforce strict consent standards.
How often do you audit verifiers?
We audit verifiers up to six times a year. If they fail a compliance check, we cut off access.
Is my personal information being sold or tracked?
No! MyEmployment is not a data broker. We don’t sell or share your data outside FCRA-permitted uses.
Other Benefits & Use Cases
How can I get faster mortgage approvals?
Set your profile to “auto-approve” mortgage verifiers. When your lender submits a request, your employment is verified in seconds.
Can this help me get hired faster?
Yes. Many background check companies now rely on faster, employee-controlled verification to complete reports. You’ll avoid delays and gain transparency at the same time.
How can I tell if my employer is using a data broker like The Work Number?
The Work Number, owned by Equifax, is the largest employment and income verification provider in the United States. It operates as a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and legally sells access to employment data to banks, background check companies, and others.
You can check if your employer uses The Work Number by visiting their employer lookup tool:
https://secure.theworknumber.talx.com/twneeer/Preauthenticated/FindEmployer.aspx
You can also request a free copy of your personal Work Number report (called a “file disclosure”) to see who has accessed your employment data:
Why should I check my Work Number report?
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you have a legal right to see what information is being reported about you and who has accessed it. The Work Number is legally required to give you a free copy of your file once per year.
This report can show:
- Whether your current or past employer is using The Work Number
- Who has requested your employment or income data
- What information has been shared
If you see access you didn’t know about, or don’t like what’s being shared, you may want to ask your employer to switch to a provider that puts you in control — like MyEmployment.
