How does MyEmployment actually work?
MyEmployment is a modern, employee-first employment and income verification platform. We give your employees control over who can access their payroll data, while relieving your HR team of verification duties.
Verifiers (e.g., mortgage lenders, background check companies) submit requests, and we handle the rest—from credentialing to compliance.
What do we have to do to start using it?
Setup is simple. We connect to your payroll or HRIS system and take care of all onboarding, credentialing, and verifier access.
Simply sign up with us and terminate any relationships you have with other verification companies to ensure your employees are 100% protected.
What’s the difference between your system and The Work Number?
The Work Number is owned by Equifax—one of the largest data brokers in the United States. While The Work Number operates as a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), its parent company profits from the sale of personal data across multiple sectors.
MyEmployment is not a data broker. We do not resell your employment or company data for any purpose outside of FCRA-permitted uses. This is an opt-in service for employees. If an employee hasn’t signed up for our service, we will only release their information if the verifier is legally allowed to access it, has been credentialed and vetted by us, and has uploaded proper signed authorization as required by law.
Do we have to terminate our current vendor agreement first?
Yes. To protect your employees, you can only use one employment verification provider.
Is this a replacement for our background check provider?
No. MyEmployment replaces only the employment and income verification piece—not criminal background checks, drug screening, etc. We will integrate with your background check company if requested.
Who pays for the verifications—us, the employees, or the verifier?
Only the verifier pays… and it’s often as little as half of what they would pay another provider. Employers and employees never pay for verification.
Is there a contract or commitment to use MyEmployment?
No long-term contract is required. We’re free for employers and easy to turn on or off.
Can we still use our current payroll or HRIS system?
Yes. We integrate with most major payroll and HRIS systems—no need to switch. You can see our current list of systems we integrate with at our API Docs page (coming soon) and our integration documents for a custom integration (coming soon).
How do verifiers access the data?
Once credentialed, verifiers use our secure portal or API to submit requests. If the employee has opted into our program, they have the ability to approve or deny sharing, and we release the data instantly.
Do employees need to opt in? What if they don’t?
Employees can opt in for greater control and instant verification. If they don’t, verifiers must be credentialed, upload signed authorizations, and pass stringent audit procedures.
Does the service cover my former employees?
Yes. We cover all employment relationships stored in your payroll, HRIS, or internal systems—including former employees. As long as the data is available, we can process verifications on your behalf.

Are you FCRA compliant?
Yes. All verifications follow the Fair Credit Reporting Act. We also handle verifier credentialing and signed consent workflows.
Do you comply with CCPA, CPRA, or other privacy regulations?
Yes. We are compliant with major privacy laws including CCPA, CPRA, and applicable state regulations.
What’s your process for credentialing verifiers?
We follow strict credentialing procedures as mandated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and state laws. Only approved, legitimate verifiers are granted access to your information. All verifiers are audited up to six times a year.
How do you handle sensitive payroll and employment data?
Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We follow best practices in secure access, breach monitoring, and internal controls.
What certifications do you have (SOC 2, etc.)?
We are SOC 2 certified. Visit our Trust Center for full compliance details.
How do we know you’re protecting our employees’ data properly?
We publish transparency reports, offer full audit logs, and give employees visibility into every verification request.
Can we review or audit the verification logs?
Yes. Authorized employer admins can access real-time logs and historical verification data upon request.
Employee Experience
What does the process look like for our employees?
Employees receive a secure invite to set preferences via our web portal or mobile app. They can approve or deny individual requests in real time and set global preferences, such as: “Always allow mortgage lenders” or “Never allow debt collectors.”
Do they have to download an app?
No, but they can if they want full control. The app is free and optional. Web access is also available.
What if an employee doesn’t respond to a verification request?
We notify the verifier and offer a backup process requiring signed consent. We never release data without legal authorization.
Can employees opt out?
Yes. Opting out means we will not release their data without signed, legally sufficient documentation—or they can freeze their report entirely and we will not release it under any circumstances.
How do you handle support or questions from employees?
Our U.S.-based support team handles all employee questions. You don’t have to.
